RUSSIAN BORZOI EDITORIAL

The concept behind this editorial is the tale of two Russian borzois wearing their owner’s trench coat while stalking their pray.

The Borzoi breed of dog origanted in Russia and was used origanally for hunting wolves. These hounds hunted in teams of two or three. They later became popular as a companion for royalty across continental Europe.

With his tall, lean body, long, narrow head, and silky coat, the Borzoi is the picture of refinement and elegance. Borzois carry themselves proudly, and it’s easy to envision them lounging in the palaces of Russian Tsars or swiftly running down a wolf in the Russian countryside.

The looks are composed of pieces from my  first collection, “Woke up like this”, mixed with some of my own personal clothing and several pieces pulled from showrooms.

I merged white silk, wool and fur to portray the Borzoi’s hair with stiffer and more contstructed fabrics to represent human qualities. Their is an underlying romantic melancholy to the editotial enhaced by the use of natural light. The two characters appear to be longing for something or someone.

MOODBOARD

Founded in 2005, Acne Paper was a biannual magazine that ran up until 2014. Despite its ties to the Swedish fashion label Acne Studios, fashion spreads were just one element in an broad mix that focused on culture in the broadest sense, with a keen eye on how the past informs the present.

The magazine explored its themes through photography, art, literature and journalism, Acne Paper published the work of top level contributors from different generations and was admired for its elegant art direction and high production values. As much a book as a magazine, Acne Paper was widely regarded as a collector’s item.

The layout was elegant yet minimal, following a less is more design philosophy with a strong focus on black and white. By the end of its life, it had expanded to 500 pages and featured a cover that folded out into a poster.

I chose Acne Paper as the base for my editorial as it has always stood apart from other fashion `publications for it’s extremely high production value and its exclusivity. The topics that are dealt with are timeless as is the photography throughout each issue.
